The following is an article printed in the Westside Stories Newspaper:
The original Tamura Super Market in Waianae recently completed major renovations, which include an expansion of its deli, fish and produce departments, plus the addition of Pharmacare Pharmacy. Although the renovated Tamura Super Market has a newer look, the heart of the store remains the same as it did for over a century. Katsuichi Tamura founded Tamura Super Market in Waianae as a plantation store in the early 1900s and it has grown into an island institution serving customers from Hono kai Hale, Ko’olina, Nanakuli, Maili, Waianae, and Makaha as a full service super market for over 70 years. Tamura Super Market remains a locally owned and family run business deeply rooted in Waianae doing what it is best known for, a full service grocery store catering to customers with general groceries, deli, meat, produce, frozen foods, liquor and poke.
Tamura Super Market’s success is due to the core commitment established by Katsuichi Tamura: keep food on the table of our loyal customers by keeping prices low and by giving good service. This core commitment has been passed on to and ingrained in son Clifford Tamura and his son Cliff Tamura, the current owners of Tamura Super Market, who credit their loyal employees. Clifford remarks “We are proud of our loyal employees who have worked here for many years, many of whom have gone on to retire, and have their sons and daughters who now work here. We thank them for their hard work.” He is especially grateful for the loyal customers, many of whom have been coming back for over 3 generations. Clifford and Cliff wish to thank the loyal customers and vendors for their patronage and support through the years by inviting them to visit, talk story and take advantage of the daily specials and low prices at the newly renovated store. Despite their success, Clifford and Cliff Tamura always remember to give back by regularly jumping at the chance to help out the schools, organizations and the community. Their success has not gone unnoticed.
While imitation is the best form of flattery, Tamura Super Market is concerned that its customers and vendors are being confused by another supermarket’s use of its well-established name. The Tamura’s Market at the old Barbers Point Navy Commissary should not be confused with the original Tamura Super Market in Waianae which has been serving Hawaii for over seven decades. Tamura Super Market is wholly separate from Tamura’s Market. There is only one genuine, original Tamura Super Market and it is in Waianae. So check them out the next time you are looking for the best value in your grocery needs.
